Woodbury's shambolic season came to an equally shambolic end, as they were humiliated by Honiton to the tune of 108 runs.
The only benefit from the rarity of winning the toss was the maximum bowling points obtained, but it was painfully obvious that Woodbury looked like an ageing team compared with Honiton's young upstarts. The home team's innings was led by teenage opener Andy Canniford, who was the ninth man out scoring 89 in a total of 173. Kevin Kelly (19) and Joe Dixon (17) supported well as Honiton's positive approach with their batting and in particular their running paid dividends. Kevin Miller (four for 31) contained the lower order when 200 looked on the cards, with Neil Richards (two for 17) and James Taylor (two for 25) chipping in with useful wickets.
The target was always a daunting one in light of Woodbury's poor form with the bat, but at 51 for three even they wouldn't have forecast the carnage that Phil Tansley wrought on the lower order. He took one wicket in his opening four overs, but then went up a level to take five wickets in seven balls, including a hat-trick to finish the match, as he finished with figures of six for three from 5.4 overs. Jeff Cooper was the only batsmen to make any headway with 20, as Woodbury were bowled out for 65 and their relegation to 'F' Division confirmed.
Honiton 18pts, Woodbury 5pts.
