Woodbury v Exeter Civil Service - Match Report

Woodbury's freefall into the relegation zone continued as another poor batting display condemned them to a six-wicket defeat at home to fellow strugglers Exeter Civil Service.

A lack of application from numerous batsmen led to the lowest total of the season (86), with only Tim Greenslade (26) and Martin Jones (14) ever looking like building a respectable innings. Kris Calderhead (six for 30) did most of the damage with the ball, on the back of a tight spell from opener Richard Burnett (two for 14 from 13 overs).

Even with the pitch proving awkward, Civil Service were never in any real trouble chasing the target, despite losing four wickets for five runs at one stage. Howard Rose scored 34 in an opening partnership of 41, and Harry Wells-Forrester finished the match with a confident 35no, which takes Civil clear of any relegation worries.

Woodbury are now 14 points adrift of Lustleigh, who face champions Yelverton Bohemians on Saturday. Woodbury travel to Honiton in need of a drastic reversal of form to have any hope of survival.

Exeter Civil Service 19pts, Woodbury 2pts.
