Woodbury's 2nd XI gained a much-needed win against table-toppers Countess Wear II at their Friends Provident ground.
Skipper Kevin Miller won the toss for only the second time this season, and this gave Woodbury a rare opportunity to field first. This looked to be backfiring as the home team raced to 41 before Rob Jones made the vital breakthrough. Wear's strong batting line up struggled against the swinging ball and wickets fell regularly as Jones took four for 37 from 13 unchanged overs as he helped to bundle out the home side for only 115. 'Chalky' White (two for 32) and Miller (three for 10) were the other main wicket takers. Youngster Darryl Stevens bowled well only to see three catches go down off of his bowling.
In reply Miller (10), David Allen (12) and Mark Smale (11) got Woodbury to 43 for three and the match-winning knocks then came from Mike Rayson (45) and Andy Smale (29no) as they shared a 68-run fourth wicket partnership to see their team home to 19 valuable points.
Woodbury II 19pts, Countess Wear II 3pts.
