Woodbury II v Uplyme & Lyme Regis II - Match Report

Woodbury's 2nd XI put up their best batting performance of the season against Uplyme & Lyme Regis but couldn't quite manage a victory.

Put into bat on a good track, Woodbury's openers Kevin Miller and David Allen got off to a rapid start adding 62 in 11 overs, before Allen was bowled for 36. Miller was next out for 41, adding a further 58 for the second wicket with Richard Hill (42). A big score looked on the cards until a mini collapse saw the score go from 120 for one to 148 for five, but 'Chalky' White (21), Andy Smale (16) and Mickey Beer (14no) all hit useful late runs to see Woodbury up to 212 for nine from their 46 overs.

In reply Uplyme lost two early wickets, one apiece to Simon Butler and Martin Glew. Opener Tim Daniel responded well, hitting 62 in a third wicket stand of 61 and the game was in the balance at 99 for three at the halfway stage. Woodbury then pulled off a couple of great catches, one each from Robbie Carter and Martin Glew as wickets tumbled. With the dismissal of Daniel, Uplyme then shut up shop and batted out for a draw on 169 for seven. Mickey Beer bowled well for three for 32 from 12 overs, well supported by Kevin Miller two for 17 from eight.
