Woodbury's 2nd XI completed a great weekend for the club, as they scraped home to beat Exmouth III by one wicket.
Both teams failed to build on good starts, each of them reaching 73 for one before Exmouth were bowled out for 146 and Woodbury passing the target by the narrowest of margins. J Tapper (41) and J Martin (28) added 71 for the second wicket, and at 107 for four a big target looked likely for Exmouth, but the spin of Martin Glew removed M Elliott (20) and T Bolt (16) and the rest of the innings subsided, as Glew took three for 38, Darryl Steven three for 28 and 'Chalky' White three for 48, with eight balls remaining in the innings.
David Allen (59) and Ross Jarvis (21) added 60 for Woodbury's second wicket and they looked to be well on the way to victory, until the introduction of Vinod Chouhan, Exmouth's former 1st XI spinner. He took six for 29 in 14 overs, but even at 134 for five wouldn't have expected his team to be in with a shout. But four wickets for eight runs left Woodbury in danger of defeat until last batsmen Freddie Ziegler and Simon Butler saw them home on 147 for nine.
Woodbury II 17pts, Exmouth III 6pts.
