Woodbury got their season back on track with a convincing 45-run win and maximum points against Lustleigh.
Invited to bat first on a pitch that always offered something for both bat and ball, Woodbury soon got over the loss of a wicket in the first over as skipper James Kavanagh scored 51 off 36 balls (12 fours) adding 64 for the second wicket with Charlie Hampshire (14). Wobbles from the top order saw the score reduced to 102 for five at the drinks break, but Mark Davies and Kevin Miller (17) got the innings back on track with 47 for the sixth wicket, and a cameo from Martin Cook - who scored 31 from 28 balls - adding an unbeaten 68 for the eighth wicket with Davies. Davies finished the innings on 74no from 95 balls, with nine fours and two sixes. Mike Sessions took two for 37 and Peter Foot two for 39, as Woodbury posted 217 for seven.
With James Taylor and Neil Richards reunited to open the bowling, the pair kept up their record of taking early wickets with both openers removed inside four overs. Mike Wright (34) and Phil Wright pulled the innings together and when they added 26 in two overs, a serious run chase looked in order until that man Davies removed Mike Wright in his first over. Mike Sessions scored a quick-fire 24 batting at No.8, and Phil Wright and Gary Starling proved solid obstacles as Lustleigh reached 154 for seven with eight overs to go and safety almost in sight. Richards returned to remove Wright with a glove to the keeper and Starling to an excellent low catch at second slip by Hampshire. The job was finished with two wickets in two balls as Lustleigh were bowled out for 172 in 42.5 overs. Richards took four for 40, Miller two for 19 and Taylor two for 51.
Woodbury 20pts, Lustleigh 6pts.
