Woodbury's 2nd XI visited top of the table Thorverton and came away with the lion's share of the points after a close fought winning draw.
Woodbury were put into bat but were soon in trouble at 19 for two with opener David Allen first out for 15 swiftly fol-lowed by Mark Smale four balls later. Kevin Miller (24) and Robbie Carter (41) shared a 66-run third wicket partnership before Miller fell at 85 for three with 20 overs left. A middle order collapse saw the score slump to 105 for seven, but Woodbury's 15-year-olds Darryl Stevens (21) and Ross Jarvis (12) added some useful runs along with Rob Jones (19) as Woodbury rallied to a competitive 158 for nine from their 46 overs.
In reply Thorverton lost two early wickets but T Keener (57) looked like leading his side to victory at 80 for three with 25 overs left. But Woodbury continued to take wickets at crucial times and with Keener's dismissal to a fine boundary catch by Carter the game swung in Woodbury's favour as 35 were required off the last four overs. Some lusty blows by Mike Denford (31) gave Woodbury a scare but Thorverton were eventually three runs short of their target on 156 for seven. Mickey Beer took three for 31 and Rob Jones two for 42. Martin Glew bowled without luck taking one for 30 from his 13 overs.
Woodbury II 12pts, Thorverton II 9pts.
