Torrential rain saved Woodbury from any further embarrassment, after their bowlers had put up a less than average display as Countess Wear amassed 268 for three declared in 45 overs.
Winning the toss for the first time this season with what looked a bowler-friendly pitch and on the back on a good bowling performance the previous week, Woodbury should have fancied offering the home team a threat. But the bowling was too short on a regular basis, and Countess Wear captain James Bogue and fellow opener Mark Davey helped themselves to an opening partnership of 199 inside 35 overs, with Bogue dismissed one short of his century, having hit 13 fours. Davey carried his bat for 121 not out, with nine fours and two sixes. James Hope scored a quick-fire 20 and the wickets went to Matt Plowman (two for 52) and Neil Richards (one for 55).
Any run chase required a big score from one of Woodbury's top batsmen, but James Kavanagh was dismissed for four in the second over, and better lengths from the Wear bowlers slowed Woodbury's first fifty to 20 overs. Tom Wilson (37) and Tim Greenslade (32no) picked up the pace and Woodbury had reached 91 for two in 28 overs, when the heavens opened and washed out any further hope of play.
Countess Wear 12pts, Woodbury 7pts.
