The unavailability's that plagued the 1st XI proved too much for the 2nd XI as they slipped to a 2-wicket defeat at home to Kentisbeare II, which could have been far worse but for the brave efforts of stand-in skipper 'Chalky' White.
Invited to bat on what looked a good pitch, Woodbury were reduced to a staggering 10 for seven as the excellent opening bowling of Mark Howe (five for 31) and Simon Chave (two for six) exploited an under-strength top order. With assistance from Martin Glew (six) and Mark Smale (17), White scored 60 batting at No.8 adding 29 for the eight wicket with Glew and 64 for the ninth wicket with Smale - a new club record. Woodbury were dismissed for 103 in 39.1 overs.
The target never looked defendable, but a fighting effort from Woodbury's bowlers took the game to the wire as Kentisbeare reached 107 for eight in 34 overs, with H Weekes top scoring with 21. White took three for 16, Smale two for 17 and Rob Jones two for 24.
Kentisbeare II 17pts, Woodbury II 5pts.
