Woodland Fort v Woodbury - Match Report

With selection badly affected by the Bank Holiday weekend, this had the potential to be a bad weekend for Woodbury. But a fine bowling display by James Taylor and Neil Richards set up a 7-wicket victory away to Woodland Fort.

The home team took the surprise decision of electing to bat and this backfired spectacularly as Taylor and Richards reduced Woodland Fort to 28 for seven. Paul Merrifield (28) and Jason Reynolds (19) avoided total humiliation by adding 38 for the eighth wicket, but Taylor (five for 18) and Richards (four for 27) returned to clean up the innings for 93 in 35.1 overs.

With five batsmen unavailable, this still could have been an awkward target but Tom Wilson (45) and John Ingham (9no) settled nerves with an opening partnership of 53. Mark Jellicoe (14no) and Richard Hill (13) added useful runs as the target was passed for the loss of three wickets in 28.5 overs.

Woodbury 19pts, Woodland Fort 1pt.
