Woodbury II v Upottery II - Match Report

Woodbury's 2nd XI got back to winning ways after last week's defeat with a 71-run win at home to Upottery II.

Woodbury were put into bat on a damp, slow track and got off to a good start with openers Kevin Miller (28) and David Allen (20) putting on 35 for the first wicket. The middle order slumped, with only Rob Carter (13) getting double figures, as Woodbury collapsed to 73 for six against some accurate bowling from the visitors. Vice-captain 'Chalky' White (42no) and 15-year-old Ross Jarvis (10) then put on 50 runs for the seventh wicket to help the score along to 137 for nine from their 46 overs, giving the bowlers something to defend. Simon Bath bowled well taking four for 23 from 13 overs.

In reply Upottery got off to a steady start putting on 27 for the first wicket before Rob Jones made the breakthrough. The introduction of spinner Mickey Beer turned the game on its head as he ran through the visitors taking career best figures of seven for 15 from only six overs to skittle Upottery for 66. Rob Jones supported him well taking three for 20 from 10.3 and Simon Butler was luckless in bowling nine overs for 15 runs. David Allen and Ross Jarvis both took smart catches.
