Fielding a team based on the likely 2nd XI selection, Woodbury recorded their first win of the 2007 season. Set a target of 157, Rob Carter (51) and Andy Smale (43) wasted no time with 12 off the first over, including a six through long off from Smale receiving only his second ball. They added 60 for the first wicket, and Carter added 47 for the second with young Freddie Ziegler (11) offering solid support. Tim Kirk (28no) and Kevin Miller (8no) saw the team home with an unbeaten partnership of 34 as the target was passed with seven overs in hand.
Earlier, the visitors had been restricted to 156 for 9 from their 40 overs, a somewhat disappointing score having been 82 for 1 inside 20 overs. John Patterson bowled a miserly spell of 2 for 6 from eight overs, including six maidens. Miller and Kirk also took two wickets apiece, with Matt Honey taking three catches. Woodbury will be concerned about the number of dropped catches and also a high number of wides conceded (21).
